The Benefits Of A Messy Desk

The Benefits Of A Messy Desk

You know that Albert Einstein quote, "If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?"

At 16 years old, I probably would have freaked out and tried to defend why my desk was so messy if anyone saw it. What if they judged me?

But these days, as I put my hands to work creating these beautiful and unique pieces of jewelry, I find so much comfort in knowing exactly where my tools are in this organized chaos that is my desk.

What would look like clutter to an outsider is an unspoken language between Chad and I.

We understand what the mess represents—that one or both of us have been busy bringing our vision to life.

That we were so in the zone, it didn't matter where any of the tools were, because we just knew by heart where they all were.

So if you've been putting off tidying up your desk, this is your sign to STOP!

Before you go and clean, here are 3 benefits of a messy desk and why:

  1. You learn to embrace the chaos.
You find balance in the midst of the mess.
You learn to be adaptable to change and cope with moving forward better in everyday life.
  2. You are being creative.
A messy desk boosts your productivity and ability to jumpstart ideas!
You're comfortable trying new things and exploring different ways to bring your ideas to life.
  3. You don't have to clean!
Because you know where all your tools go, there's very little to no need to tidy up your desk!
Now you can focus all your creative energy into making that piece.

Messy can be good sometimes!

Don't be afraid to explore and build systems that bring out the best in you.

There is beauty in chaos. It all depends on what you want to see.

Is your desk messy or tidy? How do you feel it helps with your creativity and productivity? Let us know in the comments below!
